LEWISTOWN, Pa. – The October part of the schedule is in the books and the regular season has one week remaining after action across the Central Keystone Youth Football & Cheer League (CKYFCL) on Sunday afternoon.
Entering the final week of action, there’s a log jam with a four-way tie for third place in the league’s Midget division. Meanwhile, the Pee Wee division’s final weekend of action will have championship game implications.
PEE WEES
McVeytown 12 – Juniata 6
MCVEYTOWN, Pa. – Knox Hartman rushed 58 yards to the end zone to break a 6-6 deadlock in the fourth quarter to lead the McVeytown Eagles to a hard-fought 12-6 victory over the Juniata Little Indians on Sunday afternoon.
The win for McVeytown earned the Eagles a well-needed split in the season series with one week remaining in the regular season.
Following a scoreless first quarter of play, McVeytown got on the board in the second quarter of play when Maddyx Sunderland connected with Triton Moist on an 11-yard route to build a 6-0 Eagles lead at the intermission.
Juniata used a big special teams play to knot the game up. Ryker Stahl fielded a McVeytown punt and sprinted to the end zone for a 6-6 deadlock with a quarter of action remaining.
Hartman broke the deadlock with a 58-yard touchdown run in the final quarter and McVeytown’s defense held the Little Indians off the scoreboard as the Eagles earned a 12-6 victory.
Lucas Moist led the McVeytown defense with a nine-tackle day. Clayton Fisher chipped in six stops in the win.
McVeytown is back in action on Sunday, November 2 when it visits Terrace in a must-win game for the Eagles championship game aspirations. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m. Juniata will look to secure its spot in the championship game when it hosts Burnham in another marquee matchup. Kickoff against the Bulldogs is set for 1:00 p.m.
Kish 40 – Terrace 0
JUNIATA TERRACE, Pa. – Karter Gieza scored on the opening play of the game and the regular-season champion Kish Indians never looked back in a 40-0 victory over the Terrace Tigers.
After a solid kick return set the Indians up with good field position, Gieza’s 44-yard touchdown run put Kish out in front by a 6-0 tally.
Kish’s special teams unit recovered the ensuing kickoff when Quay Vogt pounced on the ball to give the Indians the ball deep in Terrace territory. Vogt scored on the Kish possession when he ran the ball into the end zone on a 37-yard carry and added the ensuing extra point for a 13-0 Indians lead just 30 seconds in the game.
The Kish defense was up to the task on the first Terrace drive as Eli Jackson jumped on a fumble forced by Jack Wagner to put the ball back in the offense’s hands.
Bennett Harmon added a 19-yard touchdown run and Layton Glick converted the extra point for a 20-0 Kish lead.
Wagner scored on a three-yard touchdown run to wrap up a busy first quarter with Kish leading by a commanding 28-0 tally.
Terrace looked to get on the board at the end of the first half of play when JaShawn Henry scampered downfield on a 40-yard carry but the Tigers were held out of the endzone as Kish owned a 28-0 halftime lead.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Kish added two scores in the fourth quarter to wrap up the win. Emmett Hostetler scored on the opening play of the fourth quarter on a 35-yard touchdown run and Glick scored yet again with a nine-yard run in the waning moments of action to propel Kish to a 40-0 victory.
Wagner and Oakley Maurer led the Indians defense with five stops each.
Kish is back in action on Sunday, November 2 when it hosts Derry-Decatur in the regular season finale. Kickoff with the Cyclones is set for 1:00 p.m. Terrace is back on the gridiron on Sunday, November 2 when it hosts McVeytown. Kickoff with the Eagles is set for 1:00 p.m.

Derry-Decatur 34 – Burnham 12
ALFARATA, Pa. – Derry-Decatur led after a quarter of play, then scored 13 unanswered points in the second quarter to run away to a 34-12 victory over the visiting Burnham Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
The win for Derry-Decatur was its third in the last four games as the Cyclones are tied for third place in the season standings with one week to play.
Connor Rose scored on a quarterback keeper for the Bulldogs in the the first quarter, but Derry-Decatur scored twice in the frame to take a 14-6 lead after the opening stanza.
Derry-Decatur added two second quarter scores to take a commanding 27-6 lead into the intermission.
Rose connected with Archer Curry on a 10-yard pitch and catch in the third quarter and Derry-Decatur matched to finalize the scoring at a 34-12 Cyclones victory.
Derry-Decatur is back in action on Sunday, November 2 when it travels to regular-season champion Kish-North for the regular season finale. Kickoff with the Indians is set for 3:00 p.m. Burnham will look to get back on track when it travels to Juniata for a key matchup with postseason seeding implications. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
McVeytown 15 – Juniata 0
MCVEYTOWN, Pa. – Alex Weaver scored on a 77-yard touchdown run and the McVeytown defense did the rest as the Eagles reigned supreme by a 15-0 tally over the Juniata Little Indians on Sunday afternoon.
The win completed a season sweep of the Little Indians by the Eagles as the season enters its final week.
Weaver’s touchdown run broke an early deadlock and Calvin Napikoski added the extra point as McVeytown led by a 7-0 score with 7:46 to play in the opening stanza.
Napikoski added a 15-yard touchdown run later in the quarter to extend the lead. Weaver connected with Jayse Snyder on the two-point conversion to push the Eagles to a 15-0 lead after a quarter of play.
Both defenses settled in over the remainder of the contest before McVeytown eventually prevailed by a 15-0 tally.
Napikoski and Weaver both forced fumbles, while Snyder and Owen Fultz recovered fumbles to lead a busy afternoon for the McVeytown defense.
McVeytown is back in action on Sunday, November 2 when it visits Terrace in the season finale. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 3:00 p.m. Juniata returns to action on Sunday, November 2 when it hosts Burnham at 3:00 p.m.
Kish-South 15 – Terrace 6
JUNIATA TERRACE, Pa. – Kish-South trailed early but surged back from the early deficit as the Indians avenged an early-season loss by defeating the Terrace Tigers by a 15-6 tally on Sunday afternoon.
Terrace opened the scoring in the contest with a 12-yard Isaac Torres touchdown run to take a 6-0 lead but those were the only points the Kish-South defense surrendered on the day.
Out of the intermission, Kish-South got on the board as Easton Trutt hooked up with Chase Yoder on a 20-yard pitch and catch to tie the score at 6-6. The tandem connected on the two-point conversion to push the Indians out to an 8-6 lead.
Kish-South wasn’t finished as the Indians scored again with 47 ticks to play in the frame. Knox Wagner scampered in from the seven yard line and Chase Yoder tallied the extra point to build a two-score lead for Kish-South at a 15-6 tally.
The Kish-South defense was up to the task all afternoon as Bennett Rager and Wagner each recovered fumbles in the victory. Paxton Snook also recorded an interception along the way, while Quintin Rowe added 2 sacks at key junctures of the contest.
The victory wraps up the regular season for Kish-South. Terrace returns to action on Sunday, November 2 when it hosts McVeytown. Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 3:00 p.m.
