LEWISTOWN, Pa. – The first half of the regular season is in the books for the Central Keystone Youth Football & Cheer League (CKYFCL) after a busy Sunday with eight games of youth football action.
MIGHTY MIGHTS
Juniata 6 – Derry-Decatur 2
PORT ROYAL, Pa. – After an even first half of play, Juniata took over in the second half with two touchdowns in each quarter to pull away to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Derry-Decatur Cyclones.
Despite the outcome, it was Derry-Decatur striking first in the opening frame when Waylon Rager ran to the endzone to put the Cyclones up by a 1-0 tally after a quarter of play.
Juniata equalized prior to halftime with a pair of second quarter touchdowns and ratcheted up the effort on the defensive end to take a 2-1 lead to the intermission. Ryker Stall and Wyatt Seiber each found the endzone for the Little Indians in a busy second quarter of play.
Out of the halftime break, Juniata picked up where it left off as James Gehman raced to the endzone twice to extend the advantage to 4-1 entering the final stanza.
Porter Peters scored for Derry-Decatur to chip in the Juniata lead, but the Little Indians kept their foot on the gas with two more scores in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on a 6-2 victory. Axton Bomberger and Stephen Batarick struck paydirt for Juniata in the fourth quarter to hand Juniata its second victory of the season.
Kish 4 – Burnham 2
REEDSVILLE, Pa. – Bennett Harmon found the endzone three times and the defense pitched a first-half shutout as the Kish Indians rolled to their fourth win of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Burnham Bulldogs.
Jack Wagner opened the scoring with a five-yard touchdown burst with 11:30 play in the first quarter to build a 1-0 lead for Kish. Harmon added a one-yard touchdown run with 2:33 to go in the first to extend the lead to 2-0.
Kish used another Harmon touchdown, this time a 15-yard run, to build a 3-0 halftime lead.
Out of the intermission, Burnham got on the scoreboard first when Robert Davis scored from six yards out to trim the Kish lead to 3-1. Kish responded six minutes later with Harmon’s third score of the day as the Indians owned a 4-1 advantage as the game shifted to the fourth quarter.
After a scoreless final frame, Burnham scored as time expired when Kyson Miller sprinted into the endzone from 23 yards out but it wasn’t enough as the host Indians earned a 4-2 victory.
Harmon led the defense with six stops, while Emmett Hostetler and Oakley Maurer chipped in four stops each to aid Kish to its league-leading fourth victory of the season.
McVeytown 9 – Terrace 6
MCVEYTOWN, Pa – The scoreboard nearly ran out of digits on Sunday as the McVeytown Eagles and Terrace Tigers combined to score 15 times but it was the host Eagles pulling away to a 9-6 victory over the visiting Tigers.
Knox Hartman scored five times and Stetson Bordell added four scores for McVeytown in the win which propelled the Eagles to sole possession of second place in the league standings.
Bordell opened the scoring for McVeytown with a 35-yard jaunt to the endzone with 8:32 to play in the opening frame. Terrace responded quickly with a touchdown of its own to even the score.
Hartman tallied his first score of the day with a 24-yard touchdown burst with 93 ticks to play in the first as McVeytown regained the early advantage at a 2-1 tally.
At the start of the second quarter, Bordell struck from 20 yards out to push the McVeytown lead to 3-1, but Terrace again responded when Jadiel Guevara scored with 5:53 to go in the first half to trim the gap to a 3-2 Eagles advantage.
Hartman and Guevara exchanged scores over the remainder of the quarter, with Hartman tallying two to propel McVeytown to a 5-3 halftime lead.
Out of the halftime break, Hartman and Guevara were again the human highlight reel for each team with Hartman again tallying two scores to Guevara’s one to push the Eagles lead to 7-4 heading to the final quarter.
Guevara punched it in from 21 yards out to open the fourth quarter for Terrace and trim the McVeytown advantage to 7-5 with 10:10 to play.
Bordell squashed the Terrace comeback hopes with back-to-back, fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 35 and 29 yards to build the McVeytown lead to 9-5 with 75 seconds to play.
Terrace rounded out the scoring with a Malek Smith touchdown run with 30 seconds remaining, but it was McVeytown earning its third win of the year with a 9-6 triumph.
PEE WEES
Juniata 26 – Derry-Decatur 6
PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Mason DeLancey scored on four quarterback keepers and the defense held Derry-Decatur off the scoreboard over the opening three quarters of play as the Juniata Little Indians defeated the visiting Cyclones by a 26-6 tally.
DeLancey opened the scoring with a 25-yard designed keeper to push Juniata to a 6-0 lead with 1:12 to play in the first quarter.
Following suit in the second quarter, DeLancey scored from 30 yards out on another QB keeper to send the Little Indians to the locker room with a 13-0 advantage.
DeLancey wasn’t finished after a busy first half. The Juniata quarterback scored again in the third quarter on a one-yard sneak to build the Juniata lead to 20-0 after three quarters of play.
Derry-Decatur got on the scoreboard midway through the fourth quarter. Westin Cenite got the Cyclones on the board with a 40-yard touchdown run with 8:50 to play, trimming the Juniata lead to 20-6.
Juniata had the final say as DeLancey wrapped up a busy afternoon with a 15-yard touchdown run to finalize the scoring and hand the Little Indians their second win of the season with a 26-6 triumph.
Kish 33 – Burnham 0
REEDSVILLE, Pa. – Entering Sunday’s game with Burnham, the Kish defense had yet to surrender a point. The story remains the same after it pitched shutout number five of the season while the offensive continued to roll in a 33-0 victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Kish took the opening kickoff and struck on the third play of the drive when Duke Peachey sprinted around the right end for a score to hand the Indians a 7-0 lead.
On the ensuing Burnham possession, Julian Altiery recovered a Burnham fumble to give the ball back to Kish. A few plays layer, Peachey rolled out around the right side and was able to connect with Jase Atherton on a pitch-and-catch to give Kish a 13-0 lead.
With a two-score lead, Kish wasn’t done in the first quarter. Wyatt Hassinger took a run around the left side and was able to find the end zone to propel Kish a 19-0 lead. On the extra point try, Easton Trutt found an open Braxton Brehman in the back of the end zone to give Kish a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
Trutt found Atherton behind the Burnham defense on a 60-yard touchdown strike to extend the lead to 27-0 at the half.
Kish rounded out the scoring on the day when Trutt again found Atherton on another long touchdown connection to extend the Indians advantage to 33-0, which is how the game would end.
McVeytown 42 – Terrace 0
MCVEYTOWN, Pa. – McVeytown used a pair of special teams scores, a shutdown defense and a balanced offense to run away to a 42-0 triumph over the visiting Terrace Tigers.
With 4:36 to play in the opening frame, Lincoln Knable put the Eagles on the scoreboard with a 60-yard punt return to the house to build an 8-0 lead after the two-point conversion was successful.
Following a quick stop from the defense, Calvin Napikoski got in on the scoring with a 45-yard punt return for a score to extend the McVeytown lead to 15-0.
McVeytown’s defense forced another Terrace three-and-out and Napikoski responded quickly with another score, this time a 35-yard touchdown run to build a 22-0 McVeytown lead after the opening frame.
Knable struck paydirt for the second time of the day with a two-yard touchdown run in the waning moments of the first half as the Eagles sprinted out to a 29-0 halftime lead.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Alex Weaver and Canyan Brown rounded out the scoring with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown runs. Weaver powered into the endzone on a two-yard run with 9:15 to play to push the McVeytown lead to 36-0. Brown rounded out the scoring with two and change to play on a 15-yard sprint to the house as the Eagles earned their fourth win of the year by a 42-0 tally.
McVeytown’s defense was up to the task again, posting its second straight shutout. Weaver led the way with five tackles, while Cael Conner chipped in four stops and a third-quarter fumble recovery in the victory.
MIDGETS
Burnham 21- Kish 0
REEDSVILLE, Pa. –Malachi Galbraith tallied a pair of first half touchdowns and his twin brother Eli chipped in the game’s opening score, while the Burnham defense was effective all afternoon as the visiting Bulldogs left Kish with a 21-0 victory.
Eli Galbraith opened the scoring in the first frame on a 20-yard quarterback keeper to push the Bulldogs out to a 6-0 lead.
Burnham added to its scoring in the second stanza as Malachi Galbraith scored twice. Galbraith sprinted 40 yards to paydirt to push the Burnham lead to 12-0. Malachi caught a pass from his brother Eli on the two-point attempt to build the Bulldogs lead to 14-0.
Malachi Galbraith wrapped up the first-half scoring with a 10-yard sprint to the end zone as Burnham owned a 21-0 halftime lead.
Burnham’s defense matched its first-half effort and posted a shutout in the second half to sweep the season series with Kish by a 21-0 tally and earn its third victory of the season in the process.

McVeytown 59 – Terrace 54
MCVEYTOWN, Pa. – Trailing by a score with 42 ticks to play in the game, McVeytown was staring down its first defeat of the season. After a kick return put the Eagles in Terrace territory, two plays later Bentley Felmlee ran in from the six-yard line to propel McVeytown to a thrilling 59-54 victory over the defending league champion Terrace Tigers.
Felmlee was electric on the ground once again, tallying four touchdown runs in the back-and-forth affair.
Both teams scored in the opening frame, but a missed PAT from McVeytown gave Terrace a 14-13 lead after a quarter of play. Blake Specht connected with Treyson Yohn on a 30-yard hookup to open the McVeytown scoring, while Felmlee added a late-quarter score on a 55 yard touchdown burst to bring the score to 14-13.
Terrace took command in the second quarter with three scores to own a 33-27 lead at the intermission. Colt Bratton scored one a seven-yard quarterback keeper and Felmlee added a special teams score on a 70-yard kick return to the house but it was Terrace owning a six-point lead at the break.
Both teams scored once in the third quarter, with Bratton adding the score for McVeytown on another QB keeper. Terrace led 39-33 with the final frame to go.
An offensive outburst in the fourth quarter saw six touchdowns scored between the two squads. Specht scored on a five-yard touchdown run to open the scoring before the Eagles added another quick score on a 30-yard Felmlee sprint to the endzone with 9:16 to play.
Felmlee later added a 20-yard run with 78 ticks to play, but Terrace responded yet again to take a late lead.
After the Terrace score, Felmlee took the ensuing kickoff to the 40-yard line to setup the Eagles with good field position with 42 seconds remaining and the Tigers clinging to a 54-53 advantage. Bratton connected with Yohn to get the ball inside of the red zone with seconds remaining on the clock. Felmlee barrelled to the endzone in the waning seconds to propel McVeytown to a 59-54 victory in a thriller.
Felmlee led the McVeytown defensive efforts with seven stops, while Specht chipped in four tackles in the win.
